Hot tub filters mechanically remove particles that contaminate spa water.

We sell two types of hot tub filters–the washable lamella filters and the cleaning-free disposable filters. They both function equally well. A filter is necessary to remove unwanted particles from the hot tub water. Skin, hair, makeup, pollen are examples of particles that pollute your hot tub water. Chlorine and other disinfectants remove the bacterial contaminants.

A micron is the unit of measurement used to determine how efficient a particular filter and/or filtration system is. One micron is one millionth of a meter, or one thousandth of a millimeter. The cleaning-free hot tub filters are more effective at cleaning out small particles. The cleaning-free hot tub filters filter the water down to 1-5 microns, which is excellent. Basically, it can filter much smaller particles than any other filter on the market. On the other hand, a new washable lamella filter is capable of filtering particles down to 20 microns. Great but not as effective as the cleaning-free model.

NOTE It is important to always remove the hot tub filter before cleaning the pipe system.

Washable polyester lamella filter.

The traditional cartridge filter for pool and hot tub is the pleated lamella filter, which is loaded into a filter container. This type of filter is used to remove most organic compounds in the water. Pleatco is one of the most well known filter manufacturers and we carry their filters. Please be aware that the polyester washable laminated filters remove contaminants around the 20 micron range. In comparison, a sand filter manages to remove contaminants around the 40 micron range.

Clean and rinse your hot tub filter at least every 14 days.

-Use a hot tub filter cleaner that dissolves grease and other contaminants without damaging the filter media and lathering. Rinse the filter thoroughly then immerse it completely in warm water along with a cleaning agent. Be certain to follow instructions closely. Leave the filter on for at least 12 hours before rinsing away dirt and any cleaning agents.

We recommend that you have two sets of filters for easy and efficient handling.

The filter should be changed at least once every 12 months to maintain effective filtration.

A poorly cleaned filter can create problems for both equipment and water quality. You can replace the hot tub filter before 12 months of use if you so choose. This particular recommendation was created for filters being used for pools and a filter has a much tougher life in a hot tub. If you change the filter regularly you save wear and tear on other pieces of equipment and get better quality water.

Cleaning-free filters, are made of many layers of polypropylene.

The filter consists of spun plastic and porous polypropylene, which is the same material used in pet bottles. The water is filtered each time it passes through the filter, and each layer of the filter captures smaller and smaller particles. This is not a new filter, but it has been sold as ”original” in the US, Canada and Europe for Arctic, Astral and as a complement to Sundance hot tubs. We have made new bottom connectors so that we can be the main supplier for many different models of hot tubs. In recent years, we have consistently sold a great number of this type of filter. We have many repeat customers requesting this particular filter. It is extremely popular.

Filters must be changed every three months if you use your hot tub infrequently.

If you use your hot tub regularly or often the filter must be changed more often.

If you use two filters you should change them every 6 months.

Never use flocculants (Clearing agents, Bright & Clear, Gentle Clarifier) together with these filters. The filters naturally remove small particles that produce cloudy water.

Never flush the high pressure filter.

Do not use oil-based fragrances. They are know clog all types of filters.

We recommend:

Please use an old cleaned filter for roughly 24 hours after cleaning the pipes, draining your hot tub and changing the water. There are usually small particles in the new water and may be residue from the pipe cleaning that could shorten the life of the filter.
